Calvin Harris will release ‘You Used to Hold me’ on Monday 8th February, the fifth single to be taken from his gold selling album ‘Ready for the Weekend’.
The track begins on a mellow vibe which has become somewhat of a trademark for the man as previous single ‘Flashback’ proved. Needless to say it works well and delivers a nice tee off for the listener to indulge in the steady build up intro.
A smooth vibrant sound complemented by an edgy crust of distortion introduces vocals from Harris which sets the tone early on and provides a foundation which sticks throughout.
Tidy drums build up behind an early chorus which readies us for a classic drop, opening the door to a distinct fuzzy zip bass. The use of echoing after each chorus line is a nice touch and the well balanced pauses allow for pleasant patterning.
The track is a delightfully off-key progressive one which will have you feeling refreshingly optimistic about the year ahead.
The video features Harris and a tractor-like monster truck but his female company are as far from barn yard line dancers as you can get!
‘You Used to Hold me’ is a fine way to kick off 2010 for the man who had such a blinding 09.
