FAC 251 OPENS IN MANCHESTER...

A brace of bass-players line up tomorrow to unveil a new live music club on the site of Factory Record’s old head office in Manchester.

At 112 Princess Street, FAC251 will be launched to the media by Joy Division and New Order’s Peter Hook and Mani of the Stone Roses and Primal Scream.

The new venue, designed by Ben Kelly, the man behind the famous Hacienda nightclub, is over three floors and will feature indie/dance DJs and live music.

It is a partnership between Hook and club promoter Tokyo Industries, which operates 14 venues, including Digital in Newcastle and Brighton and the Tokyo Mansion Party clubs.

Tokyo managing director Aaron Mellor was a regular at the legendary Hacienda and DJed the successful Stonelove indie night at the club in the mid-90s.

FAC251 will officially open on February 5 with a performance by a super-group featuring Hook, Mani, Happy Mondays’ singer Rowetta and raconteur/writer Howard Marks under the collective name The Light.

On February 6, Mellor is reviving the Stonelove residency on the ground floor of the club, while Mani will be resident DJ on Wednesday nights.

FAC251 will also host 70s New York funk and 80s electropop and the area previously occupied by Factory’s boardroom will house a Saturday night residency called Haçienda Presents and supervised by Hook.
